Composition and Construction

The PS-Static Seal is constructed as a flat ring, typically 1 mm thick, that is placed between two fixed surfaces. The seal is axially compressed and conforms to surface irregularities. Gylon is an advanced PTFE-based material filled with additives that reduce the creep and cold flow typical of standard PTFE. • Gylon White (3510): Best choice for highly aggressive chemicals such as strong bases or oxidizers. Slightly stiffer than Blue but offers excellent chemical resistance. Also FDA compliant, often used in pharmaceutical applications. Color: white to light grey.
• FKM (Viton): A fluoroelastomer with strong resistance to oils, fuels, and heat up to approx. +200°C. Elastic, making it suitable for surfaces with minor movement or where low bolt loads are required. Less resistant to strong bases and some solvents. Color: black.

Selecting the correct PS-Static Seal begins with accurately measuring the installation space. Key parameters include inner diameter (ID), outer diameter (OD), and thickness (typically 1 mm). For flange connections, it is important that the gasket fits properly within the bolt pattern and offers sufficient surface area to form a seal. Keep tolerances in mind: the seal must be lightly compressed to function properly. Ensure the OD is slightly larger than the recess to create tension during installation.

Material selection depends on the medium (chemical profile), operating temperature, and applicable regulations. For applications involving food or pharmaceutical contact, FDA compliance is required. In such cases, Gylon Blue and White are the best options. For oil and fuel applications or when elasticity is desired, FKM is a suitable alternative.

Also verify whether the seal conforms to industrial standards such as DIN or ANSI flange dimensions. Many PS-Static Seals are available in standard sizes aligned with these norms, but custom dimensions are also possible.
