V-rings are rotary seal that can perform a variety of tasks in sealing rotating shafts.
- It is a seal to keep out dirt, dust or water.
- The protection of a radial shaft seal against external contamination.
- Seal against leaking grease.
- versatile application possibilities
- no high demands on the machining of shaft and housing

The most commonly used standard construction with straight sealing back.

This is possible in an extended sealing lip for heavier applications.
V-rings are expanded during assembly and slid to the intended position on the shaft and adhere to the surface of the shaft due to their own tension. V-rings rotate with the axis and seal in the axial direction against a vertical counter surface.
due to the versatility of the uses for V-rings, the counter face can be formed, for example by:
- The housing itself
- a housing cover
- a pressed plate
- the front of a roller bearing outer ring
- the metal stiffening ring of a radial seal.
When the shaft is stationary, the sealing lip rests against the counter bearing with an initial pressing pressure. with starting rotation of the shaft, the centrifugal force in the radial direction acts on the pressing pressure with increasing circumferential speed. At a circumferential speed of around 15 to 20 M/S, the lip starts to lift. And therefore the pressing pressure drops again to 0. The friction losses increase almost linearly with increasing circumferential speed up to approx. 10 m/sw. The sealing effect is based on the contact of the dust lip and counter face and further on the swinging effect due to the rotation.
