The TB oil seal is a durable and versatile rotary shaft seal designed for demanding environments. It features a metal outer diameter that ensures a strong and secure fit inside the housing, achieved through a precise metal-to-metal interference fit. At its core, the TB type is equipped with a spring-loaded sealing lip, which delivers excellent dynamic sealing performance against lubricants. What makes this seal unique is the additional protective dust lip, designed to keep out external contaminants such as dust, dirt, and moisture. This dual-action sealing concept makes the TB oil seal an ideal choice for machinery operating in harsh conditions, offering both internal sealing reliability and effective external protection.
The TB oil seal is engineered to provide durability and reliability in demanding applications. Its metal outer diameter ensures a firm and precise fit within the housing, strengthened by the metal-to-metal interference fit for maximum stability. The spring-loaded sealing lip guarantees effective dynamic sealing, preventing leakage under varying operating conditions. An added advantage is the protective dust lip, which offers efficient defense against contaminants such as dirt, dust, and moisture, thereby extending the service life of machinery. For applications where extra sealing strength is needed, an optional bore sealant coating can be applied to the outer diameter. Additionally, the TB type can be combined with Axial Seals AS-10 and V-rings, creating a comprehensive sealing system that enhances performance in harsh environments.
The TB shaft seal is widely applied in industries that demand both reliable dynamic sealing and protection against external contaminants. In mechanical and apparatus engineering, it ensures smooth operation of rotating components, even in environments with dust or dirt exposure. Within agricultural machinery, the TB type provides long-lasting performance under tough working conditions, while in construction machines it withstands heavy loads and rough environments. It is also extensively used in drive systems, industrial gearboxes, and electric motors, where durability and sealing security are critical for efficient operation. For applications not requiring a dust lip, the SB oil seal is a suitable choice, while the TC oil seal offers a rubber-coated alternative and the TA oil seal provides extra sealing security with a closed inner metal side.
The TB oil seal is manufactured with robust and versatile material options, ensuring reliability in a wide range of applications. The standard version features NBR 70 black elastomer, known for its durability and compatibility with mineral oil-based lubricants. For environments that require enhanced performance, optional elastomers such as FKM, Silicone, ACM, HNBR, CR, and EPDM are available, offering improved resistance to high temperatures, aggressive chemicals, or challenging operating conditions. The spring element is typically made from spring steel (DIN EN 10270-1), while stainless steel 1.4301 can be used in applications where corrosion resistance is essential. The metal case is produced from carbon steel (DIN EN 10139) as standard, but it is also available in stainless steel 1.4301 for harsher environments. This variety makes the TB type adaptable across multiple industries.
The TB oil seal is available under many different names depending on the manufacturer or distributor. It is referred to as Dichtomatik WBS, Anyseals OS-B11, and B+S TR-D, while in North America it is often known as Chicago R CRWA1 or National 47. Other equivalents include Elring BS, Eriks MST, FP Paris L1P, FST B1 SL, and Goetze 822 S, as well as Kaco DFS, Kramp BC, and Paulstra EEL. In some catalogs, it is also listed as Pioneer W R6, Stefa BC, or simply as Taiwan / NOK TB. Additional variations such as Vota B1 SL, Ebele B1SL, and Kimman KBS further demonstrate its wide recognition across global markets. This diversity of names ensures easy cross-referencing and sourcing worldwide.
The TB oil seal is designed to deliver reliable sealing performance within defined operating conditions. It functions effectively in a temperature range of -40°C to +100°C, with a recommended maximum of 80°C when synthetic lubricants are used. Suitable for depressurized systems up to 0.05 MPa, it ensures stability in non-pressurized environments. Shaft speeds should always follow the limits set in standard rotary shaft seal operating charts to guarantee efficiency and durability. The TB type is compatible with mineral oil-based lubricants and many synthetic lubricants, although compatibility testing is recommended for new synthetic applications.
To ensure reliable sealing performance, the TB oil seal must be installed under specific technical requirements for both shaft and housing.
The shaft must comply with ISO h11 tolerance and have a hardness of at least 45 HRC to withstand wear. Surface roughness should remain within Ra 0.2 – 0.8 μm, Rz 1 – 5 μm, and Rmax ≤ 6.3 μm, with a lead-free finish to guarantee smooth contact and consistent sealing.\
The housing bore should meet ISO H8 tolerance, with roughness values between Ra 0.8 – 3.2 μm, Rz 6.3 – 16 μm, and Rmax ≤ 16 μm. These parameters provide a secure and precise interference fit for optimal static sealing.
In addition to the TB oil seal, several related sealing solutions are available to meet different application needs. The SB oil seal offers the same design as TB but without the additional dust lip, making it suitable for cleaner environments. For housings with rough surfaces, the TC oil seal provides a full rubber coating to ensure a secure fit. The TA oil seal shares the TB’s construction but features a closed inner metal side for extra sealing reliability. For added protection, TB can be combined with Axial Seals AS-10 and V-rings.
