Oil Seal Type TA | Metal OD with Reinforcement Cap and Dust Lip

The TA oil seal is a durable and heavy-duty shaft seal developed for demanding industrial applications. It features a metal outer diameter combined with a reinforcement cap, providing superior rigidity and stability, especially in larger dimensions. At its core, the TA type is equipped with a spring-loaded sealing lip that ensures effective dynamic sealing performance, preventing leakage in rotating systems. What sets this seal apart is its additional protective dust lip, which serves as a barrier against dirt, dust, and other external contaminants. This dual-function design not only improves sealing efficiency but also extends the service life of machinery. Thanks to its reinforced structure, the TA oil seal is particularly well-suited for heavy industry and high-stress environments.

Features of the TA Oil Seal

The TA oil seal combines strength, stability, and advanced sealing technology, making it an excellent choice for demanding applications. Its metal outer diameter with a reinforcement cap provides enhanced rigidity, ensuring durability and stability in larger dimensions. The spring-loaded sealing lip delivers reliable dynamic sealing performance, while the additional dust lip acts as a barrier against dirt, dust, and other contaminants, extending equipment life. Thanks to the metal-to-metal interference fit, the TA type achieves a very secure and precise installation inside the housing. It is also resistant to rough or incorrect installation, which makes it highly reliable in challenging conditions. For even greater sealing efficiency, the TA oil seal can be combined with Axial Seals AS-10 and V-rings, creating a complete, multi-layered sealing solution.

Applications of TA Shaft Seals

The TA shaft seal is designed for use in tough industrial environments where durability, stability, and protection against contamination are essential. In mechanical and apparatus engineering, it ensures reliable sealing of rotating shafts, while in agricultural machinery it withstands exposure to dust, dirt, and moisture. Within construction machines, the TA seal provides robust performance under heavy loads and harsh working conditions. It is also widely used in drive systems, industrial gearboxes, and electric motors, where long-lasting sealing performance is critical. Thanks to its reinforced design and protective dust lip, the TA oil seal is highly suited for heavy industry applications. For alternative solutions, the SA oil seal offers the same design without a dust lip, while the TB oil seal provides similar functionality without the reinforcement cap.

Materials and Variants

The TA oil seal is available in a wide range of material options to ensure performance in both standard and demanding applications. The standard configuration uses NBR 70 black elastomer, which provides excellent wear resistance and compatibility with mineral oil-based lubricants. For applications requiring enhanced resistance to heat, chemicals, or specific fluids, alternative elastomers such as FKM, Silicone, ACM, HNBR, CR, and EPDM are available. The spring element is normally made from spring steel (DIN EN 10270-1), but can also be manufactured in stainless steel 1.4301 for improved corrosion resistance. The metal case is produced from carbon steel (DIN EN 10139) as standard, with the option of stainless steel 1.4301 for harsher environments. This flexibility in materials makes the TA oil seal adaptable to a wide variety of industries and operating conditions.

Alternative Names for the TA Oil Seal

The TA oil seal is marketed worldwide under various codes depending on the manufacturer or distributor. It is commonly referred to as Dichtomatik WCS, Anyseals OS-C11, and B+S TR-F, while in North America it is often listed as Chicago R CRWHA1 or National 41. Other well-known equivalents include Elring CS, Eriks GVST, FP Paris L2P, FST B2 SL, and Goetze 824 S. Additional references such as Kaco DFSK, Kramp DC, Paulstra CSEL, Stefa DC, and Taiwan / NOK TA further highlight its global presence. In some regions, it is also distributed under names like Vota B2 SL, Ebele B2SL, or Kimman KCS, ensuring easy cross-referencing across markets.

Operating Parameters of TA Oil Seals

The TA oil seal is designed to deliver reliable performance under a defined set of operating conditions, making it suitable for heavy-duty industrial use. It operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +100°C, though when using synthetic lubricants the maximum recommended limit is 80°C to ensure long service life. The seal is suitable for depressurized applications up to 0.05 MPa and should follow the limits outlined in standard rotary shaft seal operating charts for shaft speed. Compatible with both mineral oil-based lubricants and many synthetic lubricants, the TA seal provides versatility, although compatibility testing is advised when using synthetic oils with no proven history in the application.

Design Information

For the TA oil seal to achieve its full performance potential, precise technical conditions must be met for both the shaft and the housing.

Shaft Requirements

The shaft must comply with ISO h11 tolerance and feature a minimum hardness of 45 HRC to resist wear and extend service life. Surface roughness must fall within Ra 0.2 – 0.8 μm, Rz 1 – 5 μm, and Rmax ≤ 6.3 μm, with a lead-free finish to ensure smooth operation and optimal sealing.

Housing Bore Requirements

The housing bore must meet ISO H8 tolerance. Its surface should remain within Ra 0.8 – 3.2 μm, Rz 6.3 – 16 μm, and Rmax ≤ 16 μm, guaranteeing a stable interference fit and consistent static sealing.

Installation Guidelines

Correct installation is crucial for reliable performance and durability. For best results and long-lasting service, please follow our installation guide for oil seals

Related Oil Seals

Alongside the TA oil seal, several related sealing options are available to suit different application needs. The SA oil seal offers the same reinforced design but without the additional dust lip, making it suitable for cleaner environments. For a simplified construction, the TB oil seal provides similar functionality without the reinforcement cap on the inner side. The TA can also be combined with Axial Seals AS-10 and V-rings to create a more effective multi-layer sealing system.
